📊 The Insight Seeding Update
Signed up for TORO Insight and your dashboard looked empty? Fixed. The nightly Vendor Report Card now looks great on an iPhone. More product types are eligible out of the box, nightly inventory lands before purchase orders get calculated, and TORO now heals itself if an install ever breaks.
v820 is all about follow-through on the TORO Insight rollout from v818 and polish on the Vendor Report Card emails going out right now for PCA. The features are here; now we’re making sure they’re populated, accurate, and useful from the moment you open them — whether that’s on a phone at the trade show or on your main station back at the store. Plus a quiet but important self-repair for the rare case where a TORO install gets corrupted.
📊 TORO Insight — Dashboards Populate Right Away
Signed up but your dashboard was blank? Not anymore.
When you sign up for TORO Insight, the dashboard needs your store’s brands, employees, vendors, ordering modes, and a pile of other reference data before it has anything to show. Previously, that first push only happened on a 30-minute cycle — so if you opened the app right after signing up, you saw a mostly empty screen.
On this update, TORO pushes your full dataset to Insight the first time you open the POS after upgrading. Brands, employee directory, vendor directory, ordering modes, today’s sales, top items, top customers, everything. If you’ve signed up for Insight but never quite saw your data show up, you will now.
How to access: Open TORO Insight on your phone after your POS updates. Your dashboard will be populated.

📱 Vendor Report Card — Now iPhone-Friendly
The nightly Vendor Report Card email attachment now renders correctly on iPhones.
The nightly Vendor Report Card email has been completely rebuilt so it opens properly on an iPhone. If you’ve been pulling up the attachment in Apple Mail, Gmail for iOS, or Safari and seeing a broken or half-empty page, that’s fixed. You’ll now see the full report — cover page, executive summary, rankings table, and every individual vendor card with its grade, charts, and negotiation talking points — in your pocket at the trade show.
Android already rendered the report correctly; the iPhone rebuild brings iOS up to parity. No action required — the next nightly email picks up the new format automatically.
🕑 TORO Insight — Times Now Show in Your Local Timezone
Clock-ins, tab ages, transaction times — all in your store’s local time instead of UTC.
Every timestamp on the Insight dashboard — employee clock-in and clock-out, recent transaction times, open tab ages, notification history — now shows in your store’s local time. If you’d been seeing an employee “clock in at 2:00 PM” when they actually started at 10:00 AM, that four-hour offset is gone.
Your timezone is figured out automatically from your store’s state. Arizona gets Phoenix time with no DST; Indiana uses Indianapolis time; Michigan uses Detroit time; everywhere else maps to the expected Eastern / Central / Mountain / Pacific / Alaska / Hawaii zone. Nothing to configure.

💰 TORO Insight — “Today’s Sales” Now Matches Your Daily Report
Same revenue number on your phone as on your end-of-day email.
The
Today’s Sales headline on the Insight dashboard now uses the same revenue definition as your nightly Daily Report email. Comps and gift card redemptions are excluded from the big number, so a $100 tab paid with $50 cash and $50 comp now shows as $50 of real revenue instead of $100. Tabs that are 100% comped no longer count toward your transaction total, so your average ticket reflects actual paying transactions.
You’ll also see new detail lines underneath — comps, gift card redemptions, total discounts, and credit card tips — so you see the full day’s picture without diluting the headline. The payment-mix bar now groups revenue tenders (Credit Card, Cash) together and shows Gift Cards and Comps below a divider, the same way the Daily Report presents it.
Heads-up: if you run comps or redeem gift cards regularly, the headline number will drop slightly on launch day. That’s the intent — the new number is the real revenue figure, and it now ties out to every other report in TORO.

📦 TORO Insight — More Product Types Ready Out of the Box
Lighters, cutters, ashtrays, pipes, pipe tobacco, accessories, humidors — all auto-enabled for Insight on this update.
In v819, we gave you control to pick which product types Insight tracks for Staged POs and Nightly Inventory Reports. The default was “Cigars only” because that’s the safe starting point. But most stores track a lot more than cigars, and we heard from owners that they didn’t realize they had to flip each product type on by hand.
On this update, TORO looks at your product type list and automatically turns on both
Staged POs and
Inventory Reports for anything named like a lighter, cutter, ashtray, pipe, pipe tobacco, accessory, or humidor. Already-enabled types stay on. Nothing gets turned off. If you already hand-curated your Insight product types, your settings are preserved — we only flip off switches to on.

💰 Cleaner Close-of-Business Order — Inventory Before Purchase Orders
Nightly inventory goes out first, then staged purchase orders get calculated against that fresh data.
When you close the drawer for the day, TORO kicks off a few background jobs — sending your nightly inventory snapshot to Insight, building analytic staged purchase orders, and more. Previously, staged orders were calculated
before the inventory snapshot was sent. That meant the POs were effectively looking at slightly older numbers.
Flipped that. Nightly inventory now lands first, and the staged-order calculation runs against that fresh state. For stores that use Insight’s Staged POs, your next-day order suggestions are a bit tighter and more accurate.
Totally automatic. No setting to change. You’ll just notice better numbers.

🔧 TORO Now Repairs Itself If an Install Breaks
Rare issue, huge pain when it hit. Now it fixes itself without you calling support.
Very occasionally, the TORO install files get corrupted — usually from a Windows crash during an update, a bad shutdown, or antivirus quarantining the wrong file. When that happened before, TORO wouldn’t open and the only fix was to call support and have them walk you through a reinstall.
Not anymore. When TORO detects it can’t open because of a corrupt install, it puts itself into
Self-Healing mode: you’ll see a short message on screen, the updater runs automatically and refreshes your install, and TORO comes back up on its own. No support call, no reinstall, no downtime beyond a few minutes.
You should never need to think about this one. It just means if the rare thing ever happens, you’re covered.

🛠 Under the Hood
- Vendor Report Card — comparison label tells the truth. The report used to always say “Comparing to previous 12 month period” on the cover, even when the dates didn’t actually line up that way. Now it shows the real comparison dates whenever the range is anything other than the expected prior 12 months — so you can tell at a glance whether the growth numbers in the report are meaningful.
- “Resend PCA Email” link on the Vendor Report Card. Through April 21, 2026, a small Resend PCA Email link appears in the top-right corner of the Vendor Report Card tile inside the Advanced Reporting Module. Click it to send a fresh copy of the report to your inbox right now — handy if the first email you got looked broken on your phone. The link auto-hides after PCA wraps.
- Insight Control Panel polish. The Staged Orders and Nightly Inventory screens react faster when you change product type eligibility, and the product type picker is cleaner on larger lists.
- Updater is more resilient. Behind the self-healing fix, the TORO Updater got a handful of smaller reliability improvements — better recovery from partial downloads, clearer status when things are retrying, and tighter handling of network hiccups.
- Desktop shortcut tidying. The TORO launcher shortcut on the desktop is now regenerated cleanly if it ever gets deleted or renamed, so double-clicking the icon always opens TORO.
